WINDOWS TIPS, TRICKS, AND SOLUTIONS
Eliminating Windows Messenger

.:Back To PC Repair:.

Windows Messenger can be an annoying thing however; it can be removed with a elbow grease. It is not that hard to turn it off if you know how, and that is what I am here to do. Microsoft seems to be persistent in its attempt to make it impossible to disable.

Difficult, but not impossible, here is how you disable Windows Messenger. First, let me make sure that you understand that this requires you to make changes to the registry.

WARNING: Making changes to the registry is ok, but if you make a mistake – can cause possible damage to your Operating System that may not be able to be reversed.

  • First, bring up the Run Command from the Start Menu. If the Run command is not available in your Start Menu, right click on the Start button and select Properties. Next, click the Start Menu tab and click the customize button, click the Advanced tab, scroll through the list of options until you find the Run Command…then enable it. Now, click ok twice.
  • Now, click Start – Run – Type regedit and click ok
  • Open HKEY_CURRENT_USER and navigate this area until you find this key:
    • Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
    • Delete the key MSMSGS and close the Registry Editor

Again, I warn you that this will change your registry permanently and should not be attempted by inexperienced persons.
