PERFORMANCE
BOOST YOU CAN SEE!
.:Back To PC Repair:.
Disabling Windows XP’s performance hindering features:
Remember the following suggestions are just that…suggestions!
If you don’t like what you see, you can just go back and undo any
of the things that I will have you do.
Now, Windows XP is the finest looking operating system to date, but
that beauty comes with a price and that is speed and performance. Windows
uses many effects that can slow your pc especially if you do not have
a boat load of memory and a fast processor. So, with that in mind, I
suggest that you make the following changes:
- Press the Windows Key along with Pause/Break…go the advanced
tab, and press the Settings button in the Performance section (see
below)

- Look at the Visual Effects tab of the Performance dialog (see
below), click on the radio button next to the “Adjust for Best
Performance”.
You have the option here to play with the settings by using the “Custom” option,
if you so choose. Whichever way you decide to go, when you are done
press OK and close System Properties.

- Now, swing on over to your Desktop, right click any where there is
an open spot, and click on Properties (see below). Go to the Appearance
Tab, click on Effects. For the best performance, make sure that all boxes
in this area are unchecked.

- Now, for those of you who like the colorful collage of icons all
over your desktop, you must know that it takes a lot of system resources
to draw and maintain each of these little pictures. So, consider the
alternative…and turn them off. If you would like to try this, and
I suggest you do, you have two choices; clean them up and get rid of
the unnecessary ones or right-click anywhere on your desktop, go to Arrange
Icons, and uncheck the box “Show Desktop Icons.”
Again, if you really don’t like this look and feel, you can undo
any of the changes you have made. Good Luck and enjoy the faster performance
that this tip will bring you. .:Back To PC Repair:. |
